ROAS = Revenue ÷ Ad Spend. A 4x ROAS means $1 of ad spend generated $4 in revenue. Compare against break-even ROAS (1 ÷ gross margin) to determine actual profitability.
Calculate break-even ROAS first (1 ÷ gross margin). Australian eCommerce accounts average 2–4x; well-optimised accounts achieve 4–8x.
Break-even ROAS = 1 ÷ Gross Margin. Margin 50% → break-even 2x. Margin 30% → break-even 3.33x. Any ROAS below break-even loses money on variable costs.
Australian averages: legal $70–$180, healthcare $30–$90, home services $15–$60, financial services $60–$160.
Industry average for Google Ads search is 3.75%. Purpose-built landing pages achieve 5–15%. Generic homepages average 1–2%.
